In 2014, the Department of History renewed its long commitment to providing academic outreach to elementary and secondary school teachers of history throughout East Tennessee through sponsorship of an annual History Teachers Workshop; this project is done in collaboration with the East Tennessee Historical Society.
The 2015 Teacher Workshop was held on March 7. Matthew Gillis presented a talk about the Vikings, Shannen Dee Williams spoke about the American civil rights movement, and Dan Feller discussed historians’ changing evaluation of Andrew Jackson and his role in Indian removal. As the luncheon speaker, Jay Rubenstein engaged the audience with a presentation about the Crusades.
This academic year the workshop is scheduled for Saturday, September 26th. To learn more, contact Mary Beckley in our office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
