Biography

Alex Wetherington is a PhD student studying nineteenth-century U.S. history with Dr. Woods.  He earned his M.A. in History at Appalachian State with his thesis “George Edmund Badger: The Soul of North Carolina Unionism.” This work served as a biography of Badger, a Whig Senator from New Bern, NC, as well as a study of how the continued existence of the Whig Party in North Carolina led to increased Union sentiment in the state. Additionally, Alex wrote and article titled “Twisting Metal: Slave Labor and the North Carolina Railroads” that was published in the peer-reviewed Railroad History journal.
