Patrick Ramey is a second year PhD student studying the late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century United States. He is researching the cultural politics of education in the American South at the turn of the century, while emphasizing the interplay between progressive ideologies and southern identity. He is particularly interested in the role that teacher education programs played as imaginative spaces where educators fostered nationalist, and internationalist commitments to sectional reform.
