Support the Department

Giving Options

When you give to the History Department, you are supporting students who are becoming thought leaders—critical thinkers who understand what questions might be asked of the past to move forward into a well-considered future. You are also supporting award-winning faculty who foster the growth of these intelligent, prepared, and extremely marketable undergraduate and graduate students.

The History Enrichment Fund

This is our most general purpose, flexible fund. We use it to support a range of departmental activities and resources for undergraduates, graduate students and faculty that are not possible within our UTK operating budget, such as the undergraduate History Club events and research travel.

Joshua S. Hodge Award Endowment

Joshua Hodge was a PhD student in the History Department who collected and edited The Cas Walker Stories. Hodge passed away while the book was in its final stages of completion. An endowment fund, raised in his honor, supports graduate research. The oral histories that Josh recorded can be found in the Knox County Library’s archives.

Andrew Jackson Papers Support Fund

Andrew Jackson is one of the most critical and controversial figures in American history. The Andrew Jackson Papers project is publishing all of Jackson’s most significant documents and has finished 12 out of 17 volumes. We have raised significant funds from federal agencies and private groups, but we need your help to continue with this foundational work in American history.
