Matthew Kelley

Matthew Kelley is a PhD student specializing in Modern European History with an emphasis on nineteenth and early twentieth century Central Europe under the guidance of Dr. Vejas Liulevicius. His studies focus on national identity and civil society during World War I with an interest in the German Empire’s socio-cultural relationship with the neutral countries. His dissertation examines German agitation within the multilingual, neutral state of Switzerland and how this activity was facilitated by transnational links between German and Swiss civic associations. Matthew is also the Graduate Research Assistant for the Center for the Study of Tennesseans and War.
