Camren Lewin

Doctoral Candidate

Camren Lewin is a fifth-year PhD candidate with Tore Olsson serving as her advisor. Her research focuses on urban renewal in Knoxville, Tennessee, and its impact on community development and citizen participation in redevelopment efforts. She is particularly interested in grassroots efforts of the African American community and their decades-long conflicts with the Knoxville Housing Authority. In her free time, she volunteers for the Beck Cultural Exchange Center and Battlefield Farm and Gardens.

Research Interests: African American History, Appalachian History, 20th Century U.S., Urban Renewal, Public Housing, Modern U.S., U.S. South
