Jeffrey Saba

Doctoral Candidate

Jeff Saba is a PhD candidate who studies twentieth-century German history under the direction of Monica Black. His dissertation, “Soviet Military Spaces and Memory in East Germany: 1945-1994,” explores the complicated facets and legacies of the relationship between the Soviet military and ordinary East Germans during the Cold War.


Jeff has a diverse background that includes academic training in anthropology, German studies, and UNESCO World Heritage site management. He has completed internships at the DANK Haus German American Cultural Center in Chicago, the Bundeswehr Military History Museum in Dresden, Germany, and for UNESCO in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
