History Writing Tutor Appointments

The Department of History Writing Tutor provides free and individualized support for any history writing assignment, from a short response paper all the way to your capstone project.

The tutor can advise you about your argument, use of sources, and writing mechanics. They will help you polish your prose and express yourself effectively. They can also provide help with citing sources according to Chicago Style, the standard for historical writing. The tutor will be happy to help any stage of the writing process and as often as you would like—even before you begin writing! From your research question to final submission, the writing tutor can assist with every part of historical writing.

Appointments are required for all meetings. Appointments must be scheduled by 7:00pm the day before a meeting. Please let the tutor know ASAP if you must cancel.

In-person at 639 SMC or via Zoom:

Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9:00 am-1:00 pm

Thursdays 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Before Meeting

Please come to the appointment prepared with the following materials if available: a draft, assignment prompt or rubric, and any primary source materials required for the assignment. If your draft is over 10 pages long, please email it to Ms. Haden (ahaden1@vols.utk.edu) when you make your appointment.
